“The Old Scars” is a conceptual series. The defining aspect of the whole series is the “scar”
or “wound” that all of the people have on their shoulders. This “scar” is not an actual physical
woundat all, but more of a representational symbol, symbolizing each person’s past experiences,
memories, emotions, and in essence their soul. The scar is also not representational of
only traumatic memories, but more of all things that make them who they are and define their
existence. All the figures in the series have a common anonymity, as their eyes are hidden,
missing, or dark. Our eyes are the story of our lives, and without them shown, we are defined
by our ’scars’, the only thing wresting us free of perpetual anonymity.
